Ron's 1978 Cross Country

This is the second restoration sent in to us by Ron Sonnek of Stewartville, Mn. This time he tears down a 1978 Cross Country, to restore to the condition in which it was raced.

The Cross Country was a '78 Liquifire, with a molded rubber track, high compression heads, race setup clutching and jetting. This sled inparticluar is the last Cross Country to come from the Factory, being serial # 080925, which is the last of the 174 made.

It raced in two Winnipeg to St. Paul races. Ron bought it from the original owner, who raced it. It was bought on the condition that it would be restored, and the former racer even gave Ron his leather 2 piece racing suit, and a Driver's Coat, which was only given to the race participants.

In the above pictures, you may notice the orange paint sprayed on the head bolts. This is so no changes could be made to the engine after inspection.
