Update on charity Sportfire

Postby tiny73 » Sat Jul 17, 2010 5:37 pm

I was just at the car and snowmobile show for Trout Fest in Kewaunee WI. Only saw two JD sleds one was the "charity sportfire" the other was a very clean 1977 cyclone. I reconized the spotfire right away, a juy there tried to tell me it was all original with only .2 miles on it. YEAH right, at least it is being shared with vintage sled heads. There was a total of about 150 sleds on display for the first time event. :clap:

New? Nice compliment to all those who helped with the project. That's about the ultimate compliment.

Tiny 73 was right, The sportfire made it to the Kewaunee show. And what a show it was. Around 150 sleds, plenty of beer ,food and the normal B.S. that floats in the air at this type of event.The sportfire came home with 2 honors on the day, 1st place in the 77-84 restored class, And to top that off it also scored on the biggest prize of the day, BEST OF SHOW. This honor was voted on by all the spectators and show participants. After recieving the top award, I gave a short speech on who built the sled and why, What charitys The money was raised for, How I ended up winning the sled, And where its destination will be in Sept. Thee Snowmobile Hall of Fame in St Germain,Wisc.. You could hear a pin drop while i told the story and i started to get a little choked up at the end. I told the people this was to all those who built and put there time in, that it was there sled. I was just the guy lucky enough to show it. You probably heard the applause in Indiana { DA }
For a 1st time show, This was no rinky dink show, There was some serious iron on display. There even was a 1979 scorpion with 6 original miles. The furthest traveled was 294 miles, this man came from the very tip of Wisc. to show off his polaris colt. The weather was great, 80 deg. and right on the shores of lake Michigan. 37 very nice trophys were handed out to some very well deserved participants. It was a perfect day and alot of fun. I will add photos later.

How cool is that! Great job to the "award winning" build crew! Don, Bob, Kevin, PJ, Roger, & Dan, and everyone who donated, congratulations for winning BEST OF SHOW!

Wow!!!! I'm speechless. At every show we took the Sportfire to, everyone had great comments about it but to actually enter it in a competition and come out with those results is just freaking wonderful!!! Thanks Mark for sharing the sled. You're the "true" owner but every John Deere sled owner can claim a little ownership in it. Thanks to everyone that helped in anyway.
